My gap year abroad with CIEE
My gap year abroad with CIEE from CIEE on Vimeo.
Year of production: 2019
Client: CIEE is a U.S.-based study abroad organization that sponsors intercultural exchange programs. They aim to create a more peaceful global community by promoting cultural understanding. Marketing Department of CIEE, Portland, Maine, USA.
Project Objectives: Help students and parents better understand the "My Year Gap" program, where students enter the job market by doing internships for a year in different international companies. This was achieved through a two-minute video that reflects the daily routine of an American exchange student doing an internship in Berlin.
Activities: Oversaw the entire production of the video, from concept to delivery, handling tasks such as content proposal, scheduling, equipment preparation, shooting, footage evaluation, audio selection, graphics animation, editing, and final delivery in suitable formats.
Realization Techniques: Planned A-roll and B-roll shots. We used a camera to shoot A-roll interviews with the protagonist and the director of the internship program who explained how the program works, while the student provided her personal views and experiences of the program. The interview shots were medium close-ups to maintain interaction with the audience. We planned B-roll shots to illustrate the places where the student interacts in her daily life and the equipment she uses. We shot B-roll footage with alternating wide and close-up shots to show the place and details, CIEE Berlin facilities, the subway, the office, and the street, while the student's voice-over acted as the backbone of the story. In this film, we used camera movements like circular tracking shots and digital zoom-ins to make the story more dynamic and show the memories that the student herself had captured in photographs and would keep forever as part of her experience.
Technical Equipment: Canon 5D Mark camera kit with cards, batteries, 50mm and 24-105mm lenses, a polarizing filter, a camera tripod, a camera gimbals stabilizer, a LED light for fill, a Rhode lapel microphone, a Zoom H4N, and headphones. We used a computer with Adobe Premiere video editing software.
Target Audience: The video was aimed at students and parents looking for international work experience.
Platforms for Distribution: YouTube and CIEE official website
